Sportsmans Beach on the western shore of Walker Lake, along U.S. Highway 95 near Hawthorne, is a lakeside recreation site in the traditional homelands of the Walker River Paiute Tribe, the Agai-Dicutta Numu.
On July 14-16, 2026, the site hosts Honoring Our Breath, an introduction to the Native American traditional flute facilitated by Dalton Broncho of the Walker River Paiute Tribe. Participants learn the history, cultural significance, and basic playing techniques of the traditional flute, receive their own flute, and share a provided dinner at The Bighorn Crossing. Sessions run 4:00-5:30 p.m. daily, and sign-up through the tribe's Education Department is required.
