The Cabazon Band of Cahuilla Indians, a federally recognized tribe whose reservation in the Coachella Valley was established in 1876, keeps cultural tradition alive with its annual Indio Powwow, hosted on tribal land in Indio, California since 1981. The celebration features Native American dance competitions for all ages, Cahuilla bird singing, drum contests, and peon games, and visitors are invited into the arena for non-competitive inter-tribal dancing.

Attendees can taste Native foods such as Indian fry bread and browse vendors selling jewelry, weavings, dream catchers, and other Native arts and crafts. The powwow is traditionally held on Thanksgiving weekend each year, and the tribe's Cabazon Cultural Museum welcomes visitors free of charge Monday through Saturday.
